Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

It is the surgery that is applicable for both the upper and lower eyelids to remove the excess skin and the layer of fat that causes puffiness. The purpose is to obtain a smoother, attractive and younger eye contour. As the years pass by, sagging skin and fat pads will occur and give us a tired, older expression and effect our visual field adversely.

Lower and upper eyelid surgeries may be performed independently or within the same session. Both female and male patients may have this surgery.

Before Surgery
Detailed medical information about the person is obtained. Medications and comorbidities are necessarily questioned. The individual’s expectations and complaints about his/her eye contour are found out. The processes that may be used for the eyelids and the potential future appearance are discussed with the individual. Patient examination is performed. Appropriate drawings and the necessary photographing are performed.

Surgery
Lower blepharoplasty is performed under general anesthesia or local + sedation anesthesia, whereas upper blepharoplasty is performed only under local anesthesia. The incision is made on the natural curve of the upper lid for the upper blepharoplasty, whereas in parallel to the eyelash end for the lower blepharoplasty. The duration of surgery is 30 min.- 1 hour for the upper eyelid, and 1-2 hours for the lower one. The necessary dressings are placed after the surgery. No drainage tube is used.

After Surgery
Feeding begins in a short time, after which the patient is mobilized. The patient stays for one night in the hospital. Mild swelling and bruises may occur in the face. They are minimized by using cold compress in the early period. The bandages are removed after 2-3 days, after which the patient may take a shower. The stitches are removed on day 5 or 7. Swelling and bruises resolve within 10-15 days, after which women can put on make up. One can get back to work 3-5 days after the surgery. Light activities may take place after 2-3 weeks, whereas heavy activities after one month.

Will I have visible scars?
There would be a scar on the upper lid corresponding to the natural curve of the lid, and just under the eyelashes for the lower lid; and they will not be visible. The scars will be concealed by the natural anatomical curves.

What are the risks?
The surgery has rare risks. They may include bleeding, prominent scars or asymmetry between the lids. Burning, stinging and watery eyes, especially due to the swelling, may occur in the early period. The eye drops recommended by your doctor will alleviate and eliminate your postoperative complaints.

Result
It is an individualized treatment method. As a result of the surgery, eliminated bags under the lower eyelids and stretched and younger upper eyelids are achieved. The person is provided with a younger and rested expression. In order to achieve better and long-lasting results, the surgery may be accompanied by brow lifting, forehead lift, mid face lift, filler and Botulinum Toxin administrations, and laser skin resurfacing and tightening.
