Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery types. It is a reliable method that can be used in breast shape and volume variations, small breast sizes, removal of symmetry problems of two breasts. In addition, it is used very often after breast cancer surgery for reconstructing the breast or for ensuring symmetry with the other breast. Prosthesis that are used worldwide for many years are highly reliable.

Implant Types

  • Saline - Silicone Gel;
    There are two types of implants: saline (normal saline) or silicone gel. High-quality silicone gel implants are often used in augmentation surgeries. With such implants, a much more natural look can be obtained.
  • Smooth - Texture;
    Texture surfaced implants are preferred. The occurance of hard connective tissue called capsules is much less common in such implants.
  • Anatomic (Tear shaped) - Round;
    Depending on the size of the body and the size and shape of the breast, it will be determined together with your doctor.

Pre-Surgical Evalution

In our first consultation meeting, we aim to learn your complaints about your breast, your expectations from surgery and your worries about the issue. In that meeting, we will obtain detailed information about you (additional diseases, medications, allergies, pregnancy story, breast disease history). Then, we have to do the breast examination and make some breast measurements. Since we are going to do a breast surgery, breast scans are also very crucial. We may need mammography and / or breast ultrasonography depending on age. In addition, pre-surgical 2D and 3D photographs will be taken.

Operation

The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The lower half of the breast area (inframammary fold) or the lower half of the areloa is selected as the entrance point to place the implant. Approximate operation time is 1 to 1.5 hours. After deciding the incision place, breast implants are placed under the breast tissue (subfascial), under the pectoral muscle (subpectoral) or on both planes called the dual plane. Place of the incision, features of the prosthesis to be implanted, place of implantation will be decided upon the person’s breast and body characteristics, as well as your doctor’s thoughts.

Postoperative

Within a few hours after the surgery, you can eat and walk. Often, one day of hospitalization is sufficient. Patients are treated with pain killers and antibiotics after the operation. There may be a sense of tension in the breasts. A special supporting bra is used. Within 2-5 days your bandages will be removed and you can take a shower. You can return to work in about 1 week, but you must avoid forcible movements. After one month you can do physical exercises and use different bras. Your sutures are absorbable.

Cancer Screening

Breast augmentation surgery does not increase the cancer risk. After surgery, routine scans continue like every woman. After age of 40, every woman should have a mammography scan every year.

Side Effects

Side effects due to general anesthesia, early side effects due to surgery or late side effects may occur. Side effects that may occur will be explained to you in detail by your doctor at our first meeting.

Other Methods for Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can also be performed by injection of filling materials (hyaluronic acid) or fat injection. Such methods are still being discussed today. In addition, these methods require repetitive operations. Fat injection is often used after breast augmentation surgeries to have a natural look on the upper part of breasts.

Results

The results obtained after breast augmentation with prosthesis are long lasting. You can use it for a lifetime. There may be changes in breast shape due to excessive weight gain and loss, excessive scar tissue occurrence, aging and pregnancy. In such cases, renewal surgeries may be needed in the future.
